International Falls
Feature film I edited!
This is my magnum opus, my pièce de résistance! I was so excited when my friend Lindsey Sitz recommended me to her friend and colleague Amber McGinnis to edit her newly shot feature film, International Falls. It is a dark comedy about “a woman stuck in a small, snowbound border town [who] has dreams of doing comedy when she meets a washed up, burned out comedian with dreams of doing anything else.” When Amber approached me, the film was already mostly shot. She wanted me to put together a couple of scenes and see how I do. Well, needless to say she was happy with my sample work and decided to hire me as full-time editor for the project. I had a small budget with which I hired two assistant editors, Mitra Arthur and Chris Owens, both of whom where terrific to work with. I divided up the work, streamlining everything so that we could work seamlessly from our separate locations. This was my first time managing 4K footage from 3 locations, but I was able to stay organized. I got into a “flow” state almost daily working on this for 9 months. As with any film, there are surely errors done during production that it is the editor’s job to hide and fix. On many occasions, Amber sat with me and we fine-tuned every shot and detail flawlessly. The film won many awards in the 2019 festival circuit. Unfortunately COVID came out the same time the premiere in LA would have been, March 2020, so I never got to see this film on the big screen! C'est la vie! But it is available on most streaming platforms so check it out!
