Animated NFL explainers
NFL is a client of my client Reingold. They approached us to create short videos explaining NFL rules, called the Video Rulebook. I created an opening bumper for the videos using cut out photos and video clips and utilizing the hexagon pattern that was created for the website. NFL loved it. I created both a long and short version to be used across various deliverables. I didn’t know much about NFL rules before making these videos, and I often had to ask the project manager just exactly what part of the screen to highlight. Is it this guy’s foot that’s the issue or that guy’s? It was funny but I learned more about NFL rules than I thought I ever would! From 2015—2019, I created over 60 videos. Early on I was able to create a template so that other video editors/animators could create videos after I was gone or if I was unavailable, plus it made my own workflow easier. The template carried the correct animations, transitions, music, and instructions for how to keep it consistent across the whole project.
Most recently in 2024, I made a kickoff rules video since some things were changed. I also created a helmet safety video in 2018. All of these videos were made available to NFL players and the public on their website operations.nfl.com. It’s fun to think some NFL players were watching the videos to learn about changes to the rules.
